According to a press release sent out from the Esopus Fire Department at approximately 8:30 am on Monday February 18th Route 9W is closed again in the same area as a two car collision which occurred on Sunday night around 10:30 pm.

The fire department reports that on Sunday February 17th both the Esopus Fire Department and the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Corp were dispatched to a two car accident which apparently had injuries in the area of 821 Route 9W. The first units were on the scene in minutes and discovered the two car accident had resulted in both cars striking a utility pole and caused wires to be down. They had to use the Jaws of Life to free one victim from there car. Both victims were taken to Health Alliance in Kingston for treatment. The Sunday night accident resulted in 9W in that area being closed for about an hour.

Then today (Feb 18th) at around 5:38 am firefighters were called back to the same place for additional wires down. At this time 9W remains closed with a detour from Esopus Ave to Ulster Ave. At the time this was published there is no update or reported time as to when the road will reopen.

On Sunday, February 17th at 22:29 the Esopus Fire Department and Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad were dispatched to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries in the area of 821 Route 9W. The first arriving unit was on the scene within minutes and found a motor vehicle accident involving two cars that had both struck a utility pole with wires down and one person still in the vehicle. Firefighters deployed extrication tools often referred to as the “Jaws of Life” and were able to free the patient within 10 minutes. Two patients were transported by Esopus Ambulance to the Health Alliance – Kingston Campus. Route 9W remained closed for approximately an hour. Firefighters were called back to the same for additional wires down at 05:38. Route 9W remains closed with a detour from Esopus Ave to Ulster Ave.
Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, the Ulster County Sherriff’s Office, the New York State Police, NYS DOT, Central Hudson, Spectrum, and Verizon.
