An 8-year-old was arrested following an investigation to damage done to a museum, as well as two fires set to a gazebo.

On Thursday, September, 20, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m. the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded the museum located in Swan Lake Park, in the Town of Liberty.

Old photographs had been torn off the walls, a billboard had been knocked over, and a visitors log had been scribbled in. Additionally a fire had been set that caused damaged to a gazebo.

An investigation by the Sheriff's Youth Division led to the arrest of an 8-year-old, on Wednesday October, 10, 2018.

The suspect admitted to causing damage to the museum, and told deputies when the first went out, he returned to the location and started a second fire.

The youth was arrested and charged with two counts of Arson fifth-degree, and criminal mischief fourth-degree.

The child was released to the custody of a parent and is scheduled to appear in Family court this week.
