The prestigious James Beard Awards were given out on May 7 and April 27.

Multiple graduates from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), in Hyde Park have won the high honor of a James Beard Award this year. 24 graduates from the Dutchess County college were nominated, but only 4 won this year. Many other chefs in New York were nominated that did not attend the CIA.

Three people won James Beard Awards in the cooking category. Camille Cogswell won the Rising Star Chef Of The Year award. She is a chef at Zahav in Philadelphia. Nina Compton won the Best Chef: South award. She is a chef at Compère Lapin in New Orleans. Abraham Conlon, who is a chef at Fat Rice in Chicago won the award for Best Chef: Great Lakes. 

One other graduate from the Culinary Institute won a James Beard Award this year, but in the media category. Stella Parks won the award for Cookbook: Baking & Desserts.
