’20/20: In An Instant’ Features Story of Newburgh Boys Trapped in Snow

If you saw In An Instant, on ABC, then you witnessed the story of two boys from Newburgh who went through quite a terrifying ordeal.

Two cousins, 11-year-old Papito Martinez and 9-year-old Jay Jay Rivera, were building a snow fort on Thanksgiving 2014 when a snow plow inadvertently plowed both boys into a giant snow bank. Both of the boys were trapped and couldn't dig themselves out.

Here, we follow the stories from local police and the families of the boys as they frantically search for the two in the Season 3 episode titled "Lost in Snow."

Police eventually followed a tip from a young girl who was out playing with the boys before they got trapped. This lead them to the snow back.

The boys were trapped for eight terrifying hours.
